About Shelf of Worlds
Shelf of Worlds is an independent editorial reference for books, series and reading-order guides.
We help readers know where to start a series, what comes next, and when another reading order is worth considering.
Shelf of Worlds started in 2026 after a simple problem kept coming up: finding a clear answer to what book comes next in a series was often harder than it should be.
What we solve
A story and the edition you happen to buy are not always the same thing.
Publishers can change titles between markets, divide one work into several volumes, or package books differently. Shelf of Worlds keeps the underlying narrative structure separate from those local editions, so the reading order does not change simply because a title, format, or volume structure changes between markets.
How we approach reading order
Our goal is to give readers one clear primary recommendation for a first read.
Alternative orders are included only when they solve a real reading decision. We distinguish between official facts, editorial judgment, and reader practice rather than presenting them as if they carried the same weight.
When a reading method comes from the community — such as a fan-created tandem read — we label it as non-official.
The full methodology is explained in our Editorial policy.
Who Shelf of Worlds is for
- Readers starting a long or complicated series who want to know where to begin.
- Readers who want to understand which books belong to a series and where they fit in the reading path.
- Readers rereading a series who want to compare legitimate reading approaches.
- Readers who want to distinguish official series information from reader-created reading practices.
- Readers who encounter different titles, editions, or volume structures depending on their country.
How we establish and verify an answer
A guide marked Verified has undergone editorial review of the claims that could change a reader's decision and includes the date of that review.
We prioritize author and publisher sources, supported by reliable library records and other reference sources. Community practice can also provide useful context, but it is identified as such.
Automation and AI may help locate, normalize, compare, and cross-check information. They are not treated as sources and do not make the final editorial decision. Every published guide remains subject to editorial review.
If the available evidence does not support a certain answer, we say so. A verification date also does not mean that an active series can never change after that date.
Editorial responsibility and commercial independence
Shelf of Worlds is not a bookstore or a publisher. It is independently edited.
The Shelf of Worlds team reviews published guides under a consistent editorial methodology. If new evidence changes a material claim, we correct the guide and review the affected evidence again.
Shelf of Worlds may use affiliate links to book retailers. Commercial relationships do not determine reading order, editorial recommendations, or which books belong in a guide.
Read our Editorial policy for the complete methodology and our Affiliate disclosure for information about commercial relationships.

Frequently asked questions
Does the reading order change by country or edition?
The underlying narrative structure does not change simply because a publisher changes a title, format, or volume structure between markets. Shelf of Worlds separates the work itself from the edition sold in a particular market.
What does Verified mean?
Verified means that the claims capable of changing a reader's decision have received editorial review and that the guide shows when that review took place.
It does not mean that an active series can never change after that date.

Do affiliate links affect the recommended reading order?
